Course 5: TMD

TMD (tempromandibular joint dysfunction) affects thousands of people.  It is generally treated by dentists, but TMD is not a dental problem.  Studies show that 85% of TMD is caused by myofascial trigger points.  Effective treatment of this condition requires a full body approach, to identify myofascial trigger points in the face, head and neck and to treat the entire body for underlying perpetuating factors.

Course Outline:

This course will focus on TMD (temporomandibular dysfunction), looking at it from a whole body perspective. You will learn the clinical presentation of symptoms and learn to determine myofascial pain syndrome from an internal joint derangement.

Techniques in this class may be beyond the scope of practice for some disciplines.  It will be up to each individual practitioner to know and abide by his or her own scope of practice act.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand TMD dysfunction from a whole body perspective.
  • Be able to distinguish between myofascial pain and an internal joint derangement.
